Introduction To The Course
What Does Our LGV C1 (7.5T) Driver Training Cover?
Our LGV C1 driver training course is designed for those who want to drive vehicles weighing between 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes (without a trailer). This licence category is essential for roles involving local and regional deliveries, ambulance driving, transporting goods in small box lorries, or driving horseboxes.
Our comprehensive C1 training course has been streamlined to provide you with all the practical training and support you need to pass your test and drive confidently and safely.
Course Technical Details
LGV C1 (7.5T) Driver Training Licence Details
You must be 18 or older and have a car driving licence in order to attend this course.
Before practical training for your LGV C1, you will need to:
- Complete a medical assessment and apply for your provisional licence
- Pass your LGV theory tests
We can arrange all of this for you as part of our LGV Starter Pack.
Our category C1 driver training course is completed on a 1-to-1 basis over one full day (approx. 7hrs), returning for a warm-up lesson before your practical test on a second day.
Throughout your course, we will:
- Introduce you to the vehicle
- Correct your driving style, ready for your practical test
- Complete the reverse exercise training and assessment
- Demonstrate the “show me, tell me” questions you will need to know
The C1 practical driving test is made up of two parts:
- Module 3A: an ‘S-shaped’ reverse exercise into a loading bay. During your driver training course, you’ll practice this exercise at our private reversing area.
- Module 3B: a 60-minute on-the-road drive. This will be conducted by a DVSA driving examiner at the end of your practical training course.
Our Category C1 (7.5 Tonne) courses are run from our driver training centre in Abergavenny, South Wales.

If you intend to use your LGV C1 licence professionally (i.e., for work purposes or to be paid as a driver), you will need to complete your LGV Driver CPC qualification.
If you are using your C1 licence for personal/private use, or within the emergency services, you will be exempt from Driver CPC.

It typically takes around 10 weeks from applying for your provisional licence to taking your practical test.
Everything is arranged to suit you and your commitments.

Yes, as most ambulances are more than 3.5T in gross vehicle weight.
You can tow a trailer up to 750kgs.
