LGV C1 (7.5 tonne) Driver Training

What Is A Category C1 Licence?

LGV category C1 allows you to drive vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, up to a maximum of 7.5 tonnes, without a trailer. This licence is typically used for local and regional deliveries, small removal lorries, horseboxes, and ambulances.

You can take your category C1 test at the age of 18, providing that you already hold a car licence.

7.5 Tonne Driver Training Entry Requirements

Before practical training for your LGV C1, you will need to:

  • Complete a medical assessment and apply for your provisional licence
  • Pass your LGV theory tests

We can arrange this for you as part of our LGV Starter Pack.

The LGV C1 Course

Our category C1 driver training course is completed on a 1-to-1 basis over one full day, returning for your practical test on a second day.

Throughout your course, we will:

  • Introduce you to the vehicle
  • Correct your driving style ready for your practical test
  • Complete the reverse exercise training and assessment
  • Demonstrate the “show me, tell me” questions you will need to know

The practical driving test is made up of two parts:

Module 3A: an ‘S shaped’ reverse exercise into a loading bay. During your driver training course, you’ll practice this exercise at our private reversing area.

Module 3B: a 60-minute on-the-road drive. This will be conducted by a DVSA driving examiner at the end of your practical training course.

Driver CPC

If you intend to use your LGV licence professionally (i.e., for work purposes or to be paid as a driver), you will need to complete your LGV Driver CPC qualification.

For further information, please visit our driver CPC guide.

Pass Protection

Some customers wish to invest in our Pass Protection insurance, which is priced at £395, including VAT, for additional peace of mind. This entitles you to 2 x Module 3A Retests (reverse exercise) and 2 x Module 3B Retests (on-road test), worth £878.

Free Accommodation

If you are travelling more than 70 miles, then you will qualify for free accommodation at a local Premier Inn. Please contact us to discuss this offer in further detail.
