What Does Our Driver CPC Periodic Training Cover?
Drivers who hold a Driver CPC card must complete 35 hours of periodic training every five years to keep their qualifications current. Driver CPC Periodic Training is made up of 7-hour modules, and you are able to pick which modules you wish to attend to keep training beneficial to you.
It’s important to note that as of 2020, the DVSA advised that drivers are no longer able to repeat CPC modules in a 5-year period without good reason.
At Heads of The Valleys Training, all CPC Modules are classroom-based and attendance-only. There is also no pass or fail element – provided you attend, which means that you are guaranteed to achieve the hours towards your Driver Qualification Card (DQC).
(Most drivers who attend our CPC training complete one 7-hour module every year.)
Course Technical Details
Driver CPC Periodic Training Licence Details
You are able to attend Periodic CPC training if you:
- Are an LGV or PCV driver looking to gain hours toward your next CPC card
- Are an LGV or PCV driver looking to renew an expired CPC card
If you have just carried out LGV training and are a new driver, you will need to complete LGV Driver CPC Module 4 to gain your first card.

There is no assessment for Driver CPC Periodic Training – modules are attendance only. Providing you attend and complete the course, your hours will be logged with DVSA.
Courses are run from our training centre in Abergavenny, South Wales.

In order to retain your Drivers CPC card, you must complete 35 hours of Periodic CPC Training every 5 years to keep your qualification valid. If your Driver CPC card has expired, you will need to attend 5 days / 35 hours of training before your new card is issued.
It’s important to note that you can also gain up to 28 hours toward your Driver CPC qualification by attending a Dangerous Goods (ADR training) course.
