VTCT Driver Assessor Course Licence Details
This course is aimed at experienced drivers who want to take the next step in their career by becoming a qualified Driver Assessor.
It’s also ideal for fleet supervisors, transport managers and businesses looking to carry out in-house driver assessments, pre-employment driving evaluations or ongoing driver development.
To enrol on the VTCT Driver Assessor course, delegates must:
- Hold a full UK LGV licence in the vehicle category they wish to assess
- Have held that licence for a minimum of three years
- Consider themselves a competent driver and a suitable person for this role
The Driver Assessor course combines theory and practical training, with the majority of the programme spent on the road. Delegates will learn how to conduct professional driving assessments, identify and record faults accurately, and provide clear, constructive feedback to drivers. Course content includes:
- Driving legislation, the Highway Code and DVSA standards
- Safe, professional and fuel efficient driving
- Identifying, categorising and recording driving faults
- Conducting driver assessments and providing constructive feedback
- Preparation for the theory, practical driving and assessment ability examinations
Training can be delivered at our Abergavenny driver training centre, which provides an ideal environment for both classroom and practical learning.
For organisations with multiple delegates, we can also deliver training at your premises, subject to suitable facilities and vehicle availability. This can reduce travel time and minimise disruption to your operation.
The Driver Assessor qualification consists of three parts. Delegates must complete and pass:
- Theory test: A Multiple Choice based question paper
- Practical Driving Ability: Demonstrate a high standard of driving through an on-road assessment
- Practical Assessment Ability: Demonstrate the ability to assess qualified drivers, identify driving faults, record them correctly and deliver clear and constructive feedback
