Pesticides (PA1, PA2 & PA6)
Level 2 Award in Safe use of Pesticides
We award Pesticides qualifications to City & Guilds (NPTC) standard, suited to agricultural, horticultural, general maintenance and forestry use.
Candidates will first need to sit the compulsory PA1 module. Those with ‘grandfather rights’ will not need to complete the theory test following the PA1 module.
PA1 Compulsory Theory Module
One day in duration, the PA1 is a compulsory classroom based module that outlines the legislation, risks, handling, storage and safe procedures involved when dealing with pesticides. Candidates will then be required to sit a theory test in order to complete this module. Those born prior to 31st December 1964 have ‘grandfather rights,’ and are therefore exempt from sitting the theory test. They are still required to attend the classroom module and will instead be asked questions verbally during PA2 / PA6 assessment(s).
Please note that PA1 alone does not permit candidates to use sprayers.
Once PA1 has been completed and passed, candidates are then able to complete the following add-on modules:
PA2 Vehicle Mounted Sprayers
To be completed using a tractor or ATV quad bike. Dependant on experience, this is a maximum of two days training, plus half day practical assessment.
Those who complete PA2 Vehicle Mounted Sprayers can also request an additional module:
PA2F Weed Wiper – to be fixed to the back of a tractor or ATV. This is an additional entitlement which can be requested as an add-on to PA2.
PA6 Hand Held Applicators
To be completed using a device such as a knapsack sprayer. Dependant on experience, this is a maximum of two days training, plus half day practical assessment.
We have previously delivered this qualification for local authorities, environment agency, general maintenance firms and housing associations.
If you own, or are working on a farm in Wales, you could be entitled to 80% funding for this course. Please contact us for more information.
